Highly Qualified Teacher for Intervention Specialists
HQT Details
The Ohio Department of Education and the Educational ServiceCenter of Central Ohio are offering a professional development opportunity to train regional or local facilitators to deliver a program for special education intervention specialists in grades 7-12, to meet the HQT requirements of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA).
This program will provide teachers a flexible, convenient opportunity to accumulate the required 45 hours of training in the content areas assessed on the Ohio Graduation Test (writing, reading, mathematics, science or social studies).
Violence Prevention and Safety
The ESC of Central Ohio offers an online course reviewed by agency content-area experts and advisory teams of area mental health and human resources professionals that allows all mandated staff (elementary school and secondary school certificated staff) to meet the new
training requirements in the area of Safety and Violence Prevention enacted in HB 276 and HB 150. Staff must complete a total of four hours of training in the following areas:
- Child Abuse Prevention
- Prevention of Violence
- Substance Abuse
- Promotion of Positive Youth Development [includes a component on Cyber Bullying]
- Dating Violence Prevention
With the ESC training course, each module includes online reading and resources such as audio, video and assessment tools. Continuing Education Certificates available upon completion of the training.

Bloodborne Pathogen Training
This training module has been created to provide ESC employees a basic understanding of bloodborne pathogens, common modes of their transmission, methods of prevention, emergency procedures, and other pertinent information.
This program has been developed in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA's) Bloodborne Pathogen Standard, 29 CFR 1910.1030, and a copy of this standard can be obtained at www.osha.gov . The standard applies to all employees who have occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM).
