Substitute Opportunities & Recruitment


ATTENTION:
Due to overwhelming interest, the ESC will no longer be accepting new substitutes into its substitute pool for the 2011–2012 school year, with two exceptions. 

  1. Education degree holders may register for one of two substitute orientations that will be held on the following dates:
    • March 13, 2012
    • March 15, 2012
  2. New substitutes may be accepted upon the special request of a consortium member district.
     
     

Thank you for your interest in serving as a substitute in Central Ohio. Please read this information contained on this page carefully.

The Educational Service Center Council of Governments (ESC-COG) is the exclusive provider of substitute processing services, for the following districts:

  • Big Walnut Local Schools
  • Buckeye Valley Local Schools
  • Canal Winchester Local Schools
  • Delaware City Schools
  • Delaware Area Career Center
  • Educational Service Center of Central Ohio
  • Fairbanks Local Schools
  • Gahanna-Jefferson City  Schools
  • Groveport Madison Local Schools
  • Hamilton Local Schools
  • New Albany-Plain Local Schools
  • Olentangy Local Schools
  • Upper Arlington City Schools
  • Worthington City Schools 

Job Specific Credential Requirements:

Substitute Teacher:

  • Bachelor’s Degree OR
  • Valid Teaching Credential issued by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE)

Substitute Sign Language Interpreter:

  • Associate’s Degree in American Sign Language OR
  • Performance Evaluation

Substitute Teacher Assistant:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Substitute Clerical:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Steps To Becoming a Substitute:

  1. Complete the Substitute Employment Application Packet (Please Print One-Sided Only)
  2. Register to attend a mandatory substitute orienation
    • Please call 614.445.3750
  3. Obtain two professional letters of recommendation (from non-family members).
  4. Carefully, read the Substitute Employee Handbook
  5. Attend a mandatory substitute orientation.

Note: Orientation sessions fill quickly. Please plan accordingly by registering early.

Employment / Payroll Paperwork

  • All paperwork and documents are to be submitted at your orientation session. Please do not mail or drop off the paperwork prior to your scheduled orientation.
  • All employment paperwork must be completed prior to your attendance at one of the mandatory substitute orientations.
  • Please review the Substitute Application Checklist and ensure you retain copies of all documents, where instructed to do so.
    • Copies of these documents must be given to the building secretary the first time you substitute in any given district.
