Developing Student Agency for Deeper Reading Comprehension | Mondo Professional Learning

A shift in the responsibility for learning from the teacher to students is the goal of education. To promote student agency in literacy, teachers need to leverage texts, language, and instructional context. This session offers opportunity to explore building students’ agency: – through the lens of the gradual release of responsibility – by engaging in productive struggle as they work to understand complex texts – by crafting clear teacher prompts that direct the student to assume more of the work – using wait time to allow students to problem solve Presenter: Sharon Page is a literacy consultant w/Mondo Professional Learning Group with over 10 years of elementary classroom experience teaching. Extensive experience teacher multi-age classrooms, and helped with the development of a Mixed Age Pilot Programs in the Richardson Independent School District. Audience: Elementary Pricnipals, Literacy Coaches, K-5 Teachers, and EL Teachers. ELLAN member districts attend at “No Cost.” Lunch is on your own.
