September 25 @ 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

Free

Students who struggle with math calculations or math reasoning usually require alternative instructional methods that address underlying difficulties with memory, sequencing, discrimination, attention, organization, language, or directional/spatial skills. This presentation will provide an overview of these problems (via simulations) and examine alternative instructional methods and materials to teach basic facts and concepts, place value, algorithms, fractions, decimals, money, time, measurement, and word problems. Materials demonstrated will include Numicon, base ten blocks, Cuisenaire Rods, math balances, fraction squares and strips, geo-boards, and the Touchmath and Semple Math programs.
