Columbus State’s When East Meets West Symposium

Cultural Exchange Along the Silk Road Friday, September 29, 2017 8:30am-4:00pm CSCC Conference Center Breakfast and lunch included $25.00 registration fee The Humanities Department at Columbus State Community College will host the second annual When East Meets West symposium on Friday, September 29, 2017. This year’s conference focuses on cultural, commercial, and religious exchange along the Silk Road, with particular emphasis on connections between Byzantium and China. The program includes a morning and afternoon session; each session will feature two scholarly presentations followed by a moderated discussion session with the audience and presenters. The program this year features Dr. Scott Levi, associate professor of History at the Ohio State University, who will talk about the commercial history of the Silk Road. The symposium presents an excellent professional development opportunity, and fulfills 7.5 CEU hours. Parking is free, and a continental breakfast and buffet lunch is included in the $25.00 registration fee. Teachers will also receive resources for teaching the Silk Road, including primary and secondary sources. Questions can be sent to Jennifer Nardone:
