Martha Holden Jennings Grant Funds Another Year of Project Zero work for ESC of Central Ohio Member Districts
We're excited to share that the Martha Holden Jennings Grant has funded another year for us to continue with our Project Zero work. We have expanded the grant to continue to add a new cohort while also providing ongoing support for our two past cohorts.
Our work focuses on the Creating Cultures of Thinking & Making Thinking Visible. Visible Thinking—a research-based approach developed at Harvard’s Project Zero—prompts and promotes students’ thinking. This approach has been shown to positively impact student engagement, learning, and development as thinkers.
Visible Thinking involves using thinking routines, documentation, and effective questioning and listening techniques to enhance learning and collaboration in any learning environment. The Power of Making Thinking Visible explains how educators can effectively use thinking routines and other tools to engage and empower students as learners and transform classrooms into places of deep learning. Who is Eligible to Participate?
For the 2020-21 school year, we're please to be able to offer the opportunity for each of our member districts to send a team of five teachers at no charge to our new cohort community of practices sessions. We are opening up this community of practice to K-12 teachers and administrators. If your district would like to add additional participants beyond the team of five, districts can do that at a cost of $399 per participant.
When Will This Work Take Place?
There will be three sessions throughout the school year and a culminating conference in the summer that is in collaboration with the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Our community of practice sessions are facilitated by local Project Zero practitioners who also present at Harvard’s summer series.
- Fred Burton will facilitate our September session
- Jen Lehe from the Columbus Museum of Art will facilitate our November session that is also held at the museum
- Jason Blair will facilitate our February session
- Mark Church will be the keynote speaker at the culminating conference in June (dates are currently being finalized)
What Else Should We Know?
We will also be offering ongoing onsite support to past cohorts as well as free registration to past cohort members to the summer conference.
