The Orton-Gillingham approach is a structured, systematic, multisensory, and diagnostic-prescriptive approach for the teaching of language skills (including reading, spelling, and handwriting) for students with dyslexia. This 10-day course hosted live via zoom, will prepare educators to successfully tutor individual students, or to more effectively implement structured literacy programs (such as Wilson, Patterns for Success, SPIRE, Phonics First, etc.). Course topics will include the characteristics and needs of students with dyslexia, the critical structures of English that must be addressed by instruction, and the design, implementation and evaluation of effective individual lesson plans. Presentations will be through virtual lectures, discussions, demonstrations, videos, and individual learning activities with multi-sensory techniques and materials.
