Oral language development is essential for English Learners and a foundation for literacy and academic success. Yet, research shows that English Learners typically spend only about 2% of class time talking.
In this session, teachers will look at the research behind the importance of oral language. This session explores best practices to teach and foster oral language for younger learners and newcomers.
Topics include allotting time, using questions, and developing conversation skills.
The presenter will share engaging materials and activities that promote a language-rich environment.
Intended audience: Teachers of English learners or struggling native speakers in K-2, and newcomer English learners in any grade.
