Implicit bias can be described as the automatic and unconscious associations people make between certain groups of people and stereotypes about members of that group. This 90 minute live virtual professional learning session via Zoom is designed for all PreK-12 educators, instructional coaches, building administrators, and district leaders who seek to begin to explore their personal "blind spots”. In many cases, these unconscious associations can influence one's behavior, causing individuals to respond/act in ways that are unintentionally discriminatory. Decades of research has shown that implicit biases exist in the absence of overt bigotry, and greatly shape our social interactions and decision-making processes, even in spite of good intentions. After learning where our ‘blind spots 'are, we will work to begin the journey of continuous self-reflection and disrupting our individual biases in everyday instructional practice by exploring Case Studies in order to put theory into practice. Following the completion of the workshop each registered participant will receive a copy of the "The Racial Healing Handbook" by Dr. Annelise Singh mailed to their home in order to continue their racial healing journey.
