What extra supports do English learners need as they learn to read in English? How can insights from the Science of Reading help our ELs? Explore how to teach reading to English learners at different levels of language proficiency. Learn about additional supports needed in phonemics, oral language development, vocabulary and background. Teaching reading to newcomers in middle and high school will also be addressed. Join this session for practical strategies. Intended audience includes EL teachers, reading specialists, classroom teachers, literacy coaches, and coordinators. Bring a copy of "Literacy Foundations for English Learners” by Elsa Cardenas-Hagan, if you have one. The session is free for ESCCO Title III Consortium members, $65 for districts who are members of the ESCCO and $85 for others. NOTE: Members of the ESCCO Title III EL Consortium should enter "EL_ESC" in the payment box to waive the registration fee. This session will be offered in-person and online.
