LETRS provides teachers with the knowledge needed to master the fundamentals of literacy instruction. Educators will acquire fundamental skills in the areas of phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, writing and language. The expertise you will acquire by taking this course will be appreciated by your current and future students and colleagues.
Takeaways from this training are understanding the why and how of providing literacy instruction. The course facilitator will focus strongly on a theory to practice framework.
Volume 1 will be divided into two semesters. During the Fall of 2023 sessions, we will learn about the Challenges of Learning to Read and The Speech Sounds in English. During our Winter/Spring 2023 sessions we will learn about Teaching Beginning Phonics and Advanced Decoding.
NOTE: This course will follow a hybrid model. Participants will have the flexibility to complete the course material on their own schedule with a suggested sequence and biweekly zoom meetings to meet and discuss with other participants and the facilitator. Participants will attend a face-to-face session at the end of each unit to participate in hands-on activities and thought partner discussions.
