C-DAP | Associate Degree to Bachelor's Degree with IS Licensure

This pathway is primarily focused on ESC teacher assistants and long-term substitutes with an associate degree. The ESC is partnering with Western Governors University Ohio to offer these individuals an opportunity to attain a Bachelor's degree with Intervention Specialist (IS) licensure.

Application Timeline

The ESC's application window for this pathway will open October 2023.

The Western Governors University application window will open November - December 2023.

Program Start Date

The program start date is January 1, 2024.

Employee Participation Requirements

Employees must meet the following requirements:

ESC Requirements
  • Have worked at the ESC for at least six months
  • Receive a recommendation from their coordinator
  • Complete the ESC intent application
  • Sign the contract 
Western Governors University Requirements
  • Complete the Academy application and have 2.5 GPA
  • Submit college transcripts

Course List & Delivery Model

All courses are offered asynchronously online. 


There are no costs for the participant/employee.

Program Timeline

Total time to degree and licensure: 2 years
  • Two years is an average time period. Actual timeline will depend on the pace of participant as all courses are asynchronous.

Are the degree classes online?
Yes, the classes are asynchronous.

Will the ESC provide technology for use during my degree program?
Yes, degree participants will be issued a laptop and external camera to use with their online classes.

What courses are requires for the Academy?
Orientation, PACA (Program for Academic and Career Advancement), and English Composition are required. Introduction to Biology and United States History 1 are also offered as a part of the Academy and transfer directly into the Bachelor of Arts Special Education Mild to Moderate Degree requirements.

What type of support is provided from the Western Governors University Academy?
The PACA course requires that you meet weekly with a Success Coach at times that you schedule.

What type of support is provided by the ESC of Central Ohio?
The ESC will provide support in partnership with WGU. During the Academy the ESC will meet with the employee monthly as needed during office hours.

Is there an employment commitment with the ESC of Central Ohio upon completing the degree program?
Yes, all employees that participate in this program are required to work for the ESC for 3 years after the completion of the degree program.

Will I be required to repay the ESC of Central Ohio if I do not fulfill the 3 year post degree employment requirement of 3 years?

What is average timeline to complete the WGU Academy?
The average working professional completes the WGU Academy in 4 months or less.

How long does the Bachelor of Arts Special Education Degree take to complete?
The average working professional completes the degree plan in 3-4 years.

Does the ESC cover any WGU application expenses?
Yes, the ESC provides funds to cover the application fee and transcript request.

Can I work on WGU degree coursework during my workday?
No, university course work is to be completed after or before your 7.5-hour contract day.

Will I continue to get paid for my contracted ESC position during my student teaching portion of the university experience?
Yes, you will still get paid by the ESC for your contracted position.
