C-DAP | Bachelor's Degree (Education) to IS Licensure

This pathway primarily focuses on current ESC of Central Ohio employees who hold a bachelor's degree in education and teaching license but do not have a license in special education. The ESC has partnered with Muskingum University to offer these individuals an opportunity to attain Intervention Specialist (IS) licensure.

Application Timeline

The ESC's application window for this pathway is open May 15 - December 1, 2024.

The Muskingum University application window is open November 1 - December 15, 2024.

Program Start Date

The program start date is January 2025.

The summer jumpstart program begins in June 2025.

What is Jumpstart?

Muskingum University's Jumpstart program is an accelerated licensure program leading to an Intervention Specialist license. It is open to advanced licensure educators and initial educators who hold a bachelor’s degree and may be completed online in seven weeks. 

Employee Participation Requirements

ESC Employee Requirements
  • Have worked at the ESC for at least six months
  • Receive a recommendation from their coordinator
  • Complete the ESC intent application
  • Sign the contract
Muskingum University Requirements
  • Complete the Muskingum University application
  • 2.5 GPA
  • Transcript audit
  • Have a current or expired teaching license
  • Two disposition surveys
  • Travel waiver

Course Delivery Model

All courses are offered asynchronously or synchronously online.

Program Timeline

Total time to licensure: 6 months

For candidates with reading courses, the summer jumpstart program is 7 weeks.

Yes, degree participants will be issued a Chromebook.

What courses are required to begin the Summer Jumpstart program?
Muskingum University will complete an individualized transcript audit to identify if courses are required prior to starting Summer Jump Start.  

What type of support is provided from Muskingum?
Personalized application assistance. Personalized support from the Director of Graduate Teacher Education. Prep session for Licensure exam lead by Jump Start Alumni. Access to free test prep materials from Pierson. Monthly virtual office hours

What type of support is provided by the ESC of Central Ohio?
The ESC will provide support in partnership with Muskingum.  The ESC will hold monthly office hours to support employees.

Is there an employment commitment with the ESC of Central Ohio upon completing the degree pathway to Special Education licensure?
Yes, all employees that participate in this program are required to work for the ESC for 3 years after the completion of the degree program.

Will I be required to repay the ESC of Central Ohio if I do not fulfill the 3-year post degree employment requirement of 3 years?

What is average timeline to complete the Muskingum Licensure program?
7 months if courses are required to begin Summer Jumpstart.

Does the ESC cover any Muskingum application expenses?
Yes, the ESC provides funds to cover the application fee and transcript request.

Can I work on Muskingum coursework during my workday?
No, university course work is to be completed before or after your 7.5-hour contract day.

Will I continue to get paid for my contracted ESC position while completing the coursework through Muskingum?
Yes, you will still get paid by the ESC for your contracted position.
